Being Suited

Connectors and suited connectors are hands many poker players invest too much money in. In fact, they are marginal hands that only should be played under certain circumstances. Actually, the off suit connectors probably is best not to play at all. The suited ones could be worth a call when you're in late position and at least four people have called before you. In these cases suited connectors can give a huge pay off. If there has been a raise you should fold your hand.

Suited connectors have a several advantages over off suit connectors and that's what makes them playable at times. Naturally a flush draw is a stronger hand than a straight draw, since a flush beats a straight in a showdown. Flush draws are also easier to play than straight draws. It's not uncommon to see a straight get beaten by a higher one, and that's an expensive mistake to make. In addition to this a flush draw gives you nine outs to hit your hand, while a straight draw only gives you eight outs.

As mentioned above suited connectors as well as off suit connectors are marginal hands. Entering too many pots with marginal hands will prove costly in the long run, and therefore you should make it a rule only to play connectors when they're suited. Since you will be dealt suited connectors more rarely than off suit connectors, you will automatically play fewer marginal hands.
