From PC to table
I was watching the lead up to the Aussie Millions, its not long to go know before we get to the real poker competition. It always amazes me, how there are always the new faces every year, the people who have somehow made it through the satellite comps to get there.
There is a natural progression from playing online casino games, where less skill is required, then maybe to online poker and finally to real life poker tournaments. Really good players will find this progression from PC to table, relatively easy. But it is not that easy for players to convert from playing in front of the PC at home to pressure situations in real life.
There are emotions and body language that come into play – the human factor can be hidden, whilst playing online, but there is no getting away from it when you sit at the table with all your opponents!
In online poker the top players will manage many tables at once, and this takes a special skill, its not easy by any means. And, when you are playing for big money online, of course its pressured, but it aint nearly as pressured as playing No limit tournament poker!
Experience of playing real life poker is essential for the switch from PC to table. You have to become a master at reading people and their play, you can’t do this if you are always sitting in front of your PC. There are so many subtleties and tricks to the game that separate the good players from the not so good.
The guys that qualify online through the satellite poker tournaments, may get far, but the going will get tough as the tournament progresses. I can’t see many of them getting to the last day, before the pros blow them out.
For those of you that are playing online casino games and online poker, it really helps your game if you change to real life poker once in while, just to practice reading people and their play.
